Shangri-La Hambantota is a luxury beachfront resort located on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and lush tropical landscapes. The resort offers world-class accommodation, exceptional dining experiences, and extensive leisure facilities including a Golf Course, signature spa, multiple swimming pools, and spacious conference and event venues. The resort comprises 274 beautifully designed rooms and suites, offering guests a unique blend of relaxation and adventure.
At Shangri-La, hospitality from the heart defines who we are. We are seeking a highly driven and experienced Financial Controller to lead and oversee the resort’s Finance Division, ensuring strong financial governance, operational efficiency, compliance, and strategic business support across all areas of the resort.
In The Role, We Rely On You To
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Oversee all accounting functions including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Income Audit, Cost Control and Treasury.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, forecasts, budgets, and business performance analyses.
- Ensure compliance with Shangri-La financial policies, corporate governance requirements, local regulations, and statutory obligations.
- Monitor and control operating costs while identifying opportunities to improve profitability and financial performance.
- Provide financial guidance and strategic support to the General Manager and Executive Committee.
- Manage cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure planning to support business objectives.
- Ensure effective internal controls, risk management practices, and audit readiness across the resort.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting exercises.
- Review and analyze financial results, highlighting risks, opportunities, and recommendations for improvement.
- Drive financial discipline and accountability across all departments through effective business partnering.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, banks, government authorities, and corporate finance teams.
- Develop, mentor, and lead the Finance team to achieve operational excellence and professional growth.
We Are Looking for Someone Who
- Holds a professional accounting qualification such as CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior finance leadership role, preferably within the hospitality industry, including experience working with an international hotel chain with regional or corporate reporting responsibilities.
- Demonstrates extensive experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial planning and analysis, taxation, and internal controls.
- Possesses strong knowledge of financial management, accounting standards, corporate governance, and financial risk management.
- Has sound knowledge of Sri Lankan taxation, statutory compliance, regulatory requirements, deferred tax calculations, submission of periodic tax returns, and handling queries from the IRD.
- Is familiar with the OECD BEPS framework, OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines, Double Taxation Agreements, and the international tax implications of management contracts and shared service arrangements.
- Has experience working with hotel ERP and Property Management Systems such as Sun Systems, Opera PMS, or similar platforms.
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of procurement controls, inventory management, and cost optimization within a luxury resort or hotel environment.
- Possesses excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively under pressure and within deadlines.
- Possesses a commercial mindset with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
